I am an educator and researcher interested in landscape genetics, primate conservation, and remote sensing.
As an educator, I seek to impart aspects of critical thinking and evaluation through teaching and mentoring. I am particularly motivated by the enthusiasm that students exposed to scientific thinking bring to discussions. I see this enthusiasm in students’ joy of debugging a data analysis script to the excitement and nervousness of presenting their results to peers. In this sphere of teaching and mentoring, I understand not all students will want to pursue a career in science, but I want to teach students that comprehension of science is fundamental to understanding the world.
In the course of conducting my research, I collaborate with many colleagues in several areas. During the summer of 2012, I worked with Dr. Marina Cords on a behavioral project. I also work with Dr. Ryan Raaum on genetic aspects in the Laboratory of Human and Primate Evolutionary Genetics. I have also collaborated with the Behavioral Ecology and Sociology/Anthropology Unit at the German Primate Research Center (Deutsches Primatenzentrum) on relatedness in two mouse lemur species.
